We are pleased to announce that Kaiser Permanente will be the naming sponsor for the twelfth annual Eagle Run and the race will be held at Avon High School. Since the inception eleven years ago, the race has always been held on the Saturday of Memorial Weekend; and therefore, this year's edition will be on Saturday, May 26, 2012.
For the eleventh year, the annual Eagle Run took place at All Pro Freight Stadium on Saturday, May 28, 2011. The purpose of the annual run is threefold: First, it is an event for the entire community to enjoy; secondly, it is designed to highlight the importance of promoting good health, fitness, and sound minds; and lastly, it helps to serve as financial support to the Avon School Educational Endowment Fund (ASEEF), and other charitable organizations.
The event was started eleven years ago to support the ASEEF and at that time it was decided that 50% of the proceeds every year would go to the ASEEF with the remainder to be split among worthwhile non-profit organizations. Last year the event raised a total of $20,000 after expenses and consequently, the money was distributed as follows: $10,000 went to the ASEEF; $5,000 to the French Creek YMCA; and the remaining $5,000 was given to Avon/Avon Lake Community Resource Services.
Every year the event has grown in attendance and everyone is cordially invited to be a part of this exciting event that brings together adults and children from our area in a competitive, yet spectator-oriented, event. It features awards, food, beverages, and the first 750 adult entrants receive a shirt and hat. Everyone is encouraged to participate by either: running the five miles, enjoying a 5K run or walk or being a spectator. In addition, after the adult runs/walk, there is a one-mile fun run for children and all participating children receive a t-shirt and an award.
